Hail Protection

A hail protection system is an integral and essential part of modern orchards. This system minimizes the risk of hail damage on the crops and seedlings and ensures the protection of the overall investment. In addition to its hail protection function, the system simultaneously serves as a support system in the dense set of low-vigor rootstocks, as support to the irrigation system and as sun protection during the summer months. The entire surface of the orchard is protected by a system with the following properties:

  • Spacing between rows: 3.2 m
  • Spacing between reinforcing bars in a row: 10 m
  • Number of reinforcing (horizontal) wires in a row: 5
  • Height of reinforcing bars: 4.5 m
  • Bars at the ends: wooden
  • Interior bars: concrete

Apart from stable crops, additional advantages of the system are protection of the crops from sunburn, a more even fruit color and wind damage protection.
